Dream Catcher

Only one available, this original 30×40″ Encaustic painting by Artist Amanda Pierce has been created on a 1.5″ thickness gallery wood frame.

From the series My DNA IS OF EARTH AND SKY

This is Dream Catcher, sometimes referred to as a “Sacred Hoop.” The Ojibwe word for ream catcher Asabikeshiinh actually means “spider,” referring to the web.

Dream Catchers were traditionally used as talismans to protect sleeping people, usually children. Some indigenous tribes believe that the night air is filled with dreams, both good and bad. When hung above the bed in a place where the morning sunlight can hit it, it is believed the good dreams pass through and gently go down the feathers to comfort the sleeper below. Bad dreams are caught up and destroyed, burned up in the light.

Encaustic, pigments, broken mirror, 24k gold leaf although most of the broken mirror has been buried by the encaustic medium one still remains poking through, can you see it?
