First Snowfall
From the Nana’s Garden collection, a mother/daughter collaboration. Poems by Shan Stauffer, my mother. This encaustic original on a 300lb watercolour paper measuring 6 3/4 x 8 1/2″ comes in an 8 x 10″ matte ready to be mounted in an 11 x 14″ frame.
Inspired by the poem: FIRST SNOWFALL
Grey flannel wraps the garden.
Spruce stand like dark shadows.
Small shrubs lift their arms to the blessing of snow.
Soft ice blossoms drift earthward,
hush the noise of traffic.
Fragile, silent, white,
they float
into the lavender shadows beneath the trees,
blanket the frost crisped lawn,
settle over the yard,
slowly cover everything
with a silken quilt.
Snow sings softly,
Whispers its lullaby.
Sleep…cold, crystalline dreams.
